Fill Out the Form Below To Tell The Bureau of Indian Affairs: NO CASINO IN THE COLUMBIA GORGE!
Reasons To Oppose the State’s First Off-Reservation Casino:
- Allowing an off-reservation casino and resort in the heart of the Columbia Gorge is a radical change in state policy. The current policy of one-casino, per-tribe, on reservation lands is fair, limits casinos and protects the Gorge.
- A Gorge casino and resort is unnecessary for the Warm Springs tribe because an on-reservation casino alternative is a viable option to create jobs for tribal members. Federal officials should approve an on-reservation alternative.
- Opens the door to more casinos across Oregon, closer to cities, neighborhoods, churches, and schools.
- The Columbia River Gorge isn’t the place for a casino resort; it will add millions of cars to the freeway, create more pollution and damage the environment and scenic beauty of the Gorge.
- A daily 218-mile round-trip commute from where most tribal members live to Cascade Locks is unreasonable and unnecessary when an on-reservation alternative exists. Federal officials should follow their new commuting guidelines designed create jobs and improve the quality of life for tribal members on reservation lands.
